Jaipur, 28th Sept. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday highlighted the critical role of women and education in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation while addressing students and faculty at India International School in Jaipur. He said, “Women and education are the two wheels of the chariot that will drive the nation.”

Stressing the importance of education, particularly for women, the Vice President described it as the “great leveller” in society and essential for democracy to thrive. He added that education eradicates inequities and ensures equality, remarking that it “provides oxygen to democracy.” He also drew attention to the emphasis on education and women’s participation during the Vedic era, noting how India lost its way in later periods but is now regaining momentum with the recent progress in women’s rights.

Praising the historic Women’s Reservation Bill that mandates one-third reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures, Dhankhar called it an “epochal development” and a milestone in empowering women to participate in policymaking, legislation, and governance.

He also emphasized India’s growing global prominence in investment and economic opportunities, citing remarks from international bodies such as the IMF and World Bank. “Globally, India is the most happening place for investment and opportunity,” Dhankhar said, highlighting the nation’s world-class infrastructure and increasing “opportunity basket.”

On the educational front, the Vice President lauded the National Education Policy (NEP), describing it as a transformative step toward providing quality and purposeful education. He emphasized that education should move beyond mere degree acquisition and focus on skills and aptitude, encouraging institutions to fully adopt the NEP.

Speaking on India’s progress toward achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, Dhankhar expressed confidence that the nation has the necessary tools and mechanisms for every individual to realize their potential. He also highlighted the equal application of the law, noting that privilege and immunity from accountability are no longer tolerated in India.

The Vice President further commended the government’s efforts in rooting out corruption, saying, “Power corridors once infested with corrupt elements have been neutralized,” ensuring transparent and accountable governance driven by technology, benefiting even the most remote villages.
