Sai Sudharsan has been one of the most consistent performers for Gujarat Titans (GT) over the last few IPL seasons. In this ongoing campaign as well, GT have won two out of three games so far. Later on Sunday, they will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad. Sudharsan has shown consistency this season with scores of 74, 63, and 49. Ahead of Sunday’s clash, he had a freewheeling chat with RevSportz’s Editor-in-Chief, Boria Majumdar, where he opened up on GT skipper Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, coach Ashish Nehra, GT as a franchise, his ultimate dream and lot more.

First, when asked about his consistency, he attributed it to his mindset and focus. “I think, from the mental point of view, it is about the hunger we have to make the team win,” he said. “I think that is the most important thing for me. And that is what I am trying to do. I am always hungry.”
For Sudharsan, what happened in the previous game does not matter. Every match is a fresh challenge, and his focus remains solely on how he can help the team succeed. “Only focusing on what you have to do, in what ways we can make the team win and try and contribute in any way,” he said.
Reflecting on Gill, his opening partner and GT captain, Sudharsan spoke highly of his leadership qualities and ability to connect with players. “Shubman as a leader, he is actually a very good leader because of the way he manages the players and the way he understands the mindset of the players,” he said. “He gives them that time and that space. He is a very good man-manager in my eyes.”

Their partnership, both on and off the field, has grown strong over the past few years. He revealed how their conversations around batting and match situations, even during practice sessions, have been valuable. “Even inside the ground during the game, he gives me a few pointers here and there, which are actually very useful,” said Sudharsan. “I have learnt a lot from his batting as well.”
Speaking about batting with Jos Buttler, Sudharsan shared his admiration for the guidance the English star provides. “He brings in that clarity when he comes on to the field,” he said. “The conversations which we have during batting, he gives so much clarity and gives a lot of cues in between.
“If I can give an example, the last few games, we actually had a lot of conversations inside the field, which eventually helped us to be in a better position later in the game.”
When asked how he has evolved as a player, Sudharsan pointed to his growing experience and understanding of the T20 format. He believes exposure to varied situations has improved his decision-making. “I feel the understanding of T20 cricket has gotten a bit more because I got exposed to a lot of conditions,” he said. “I am getting an understanding on what to do at what point in time.”

As for his long-term dream of playing for India, Sudharsan remains grounded and focused on the present. “That is the bigger picture, the beautiful art everybody wants to see,” he said. “Right now, my first thing is to make GT win whenever possible. Make them qualify for the playoffs and win this IPL.”
Despite growing recognition, he insists his personal life and work ethic remain unchanged. “Nothing has changed in my life,” said Sudharsan. “I still have the same routine… I still put in the same work what I used to put three, four, five years back.” If anything, his commitment has only grown. He believes that doing the work right will naturally bring rewards.
Talking about head coach Nehra, Sudharsan highlighted his energy and clarity. “The energy is the most important thing which stands out,” he said. “But apart from that, I feel the game awareness and the way he tells that is what makes him special. He takes all the complex factors of the game and he gives you a very simple thing which you can follow each and every game.”
When asked what makes Gujarat Titans special, Sudharsan credited the supportive environment and close-knit culture fostered by the franchise. “The way they tell things or the way they keep the environment is completely different,” he said. “We understand each other. We talk whatever we want to talk. There are no judgments here.”
Finally, when asked about the one dream he holds closest, Sudharsan did not hesitate. “Winning World Cups for the country, for sure,” he said with conviction.
