After an outstanding run in the WPL 2025 league stage, the JSW and GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals are gearing up for the tournament final. Having finished at the top of the table, they will be playing their third consecutive final and are determined to secure the elusive trophy this time.

Vice-captain Jemimah Rodrigues shared insights into the team’s preparations, highlighting the benefits of the break before the final. “This gap has actually worked in our favor. We’ve had valuable team bonding sessions, and with the hectic schedule of this WPL, including back-to-back games and travel, this break came at the perfect time. We’ve also had quality practice sessions on Mumbai pitches to adapt to the conditions. Sometimes, a short break helps us reset and be fully prepared for the big day,” she said in a virtual press conference on Thursday.

Looking back at Delhi Capitals’ previous two WPL final appearances, Rodrigues remained optimistic. “Yes, we all know what happened in the last two seasons, but that’s cricket—everything can change in one game, in one night. The entire team is positive and excited, and no one is dwelling on the past. Our focus is to go out there, enjoy the game, and play our best cricket. We love representing DC, we love this team, and we’re going to give it our all on finals night.”

Discussing her role as vice-captain under Meg Lanning, the attacking right-hander praised the Australian legend’s leadership qualities. “What I admire most about Meg is that she’s calm yet aggressive at the same time—an essential trait for any leader. Last year, in a tense match, I asked her if she was nervous. What she told me stuck with me. She said, ‘As a captain, my job is to set the tone for the team and stay calm because everyone is looking at me. If I’m calm, the team is calm.’ That made so much sense to me.”

With the WPL 2025 final set for March 15 in Mumbai, Delhi Capitals are determined to make history and claim their first WPL title. Their opponent will be decided in the eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants.
