AI- Artificial Intelligence is no longer a term but has become a part of our daily lives. Whether it’s spell checking your work or asking AI bots what is needed for puja on the last day of Navratri. AI has made it all too simple for us.

Amid all this, one of the most notable examples of this transformation is the rise of Dark Factories in China.
What Are Dark Factories?
Simply put, these are advanced factories that are completely run and operated by machines, robots, and AI(artificial intelligence). There is no human intervention, and because no humans are involved, the factories run 24/7.

But why the word ‘Dark’?
As we mentioned before, these factories do not require humans, so they do not require lighting, hence the word ‘dark’.
Smartphones, Smart Factories!
According to media reports, electronics giant Xiaomi is leading the way. Xiaomi’s smart factory in Changping exemplifies this new manufacturing paradigm in China. The factory produces one smartphone per second using AI and robotics to achieve exceptional efficiency and precision.
Xiaomi invested approximately $330 million in this facility, which spans 81,000 square meters and has an annual production capacity of 10 million devices.
The factory integrates self-developed AI systems for real-time monitoring and automated maintenance, such as dust removal.
Impact on Jobs…
Clearly, one of the most significant consequences of the rise of dark factories is job displacement.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report, AI automation will significantly impact 23% of jobs worldwide in the next five years. The report highlights that 42% of business tasks will be automated by 2027, pushing companies toward AI-powered solutions.
