Thiruvananthapuram, 11th Sept. Representatives from the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) met with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday to discuss ongoing controversies surrounding the Justice K Hema Committee report.

The report, which exposes alleged exploitation and mistreatment of women in the film industry, has sparked significant debate.

Notable attendees included actors Revathi and Rima Kallingal, screenwriter Deedi Damodaran, and editor Bina Paul Venugopal. Kallingal later shared with reporters that their aim was to unify industry stakeholders, though they chose not to disclose specifics about the discussions with the Chief Minister.

This meeting follows a critical remark from the Kerala High Court, which condemned the Left government’s handling of the report as “alarmingly lethargic.” The court emphasized that the government had received the report over four years ago and should have acted promptly. It ordered that the full report be submitted to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for further legal action.

The Justice K Hema Committee, formed after the 2017 actress assault case, uncovered numerous instances of harassment and exploitation in Malayalam cinema. In response to these revelations, the state government announced the formation of a seven-member SIT on August 25 to investigate the allegations further.
