New Delhi, 26th Sept. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday addressed the 83rd Foundation Day celebrations of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi, emphasizing the importance of substantial contributions to research and development (R&D).
He remarked that mere financial investment and lip service were not enough; outcomes must be tangible, impactful, and directly benefit national growth, security, and diplomacy.
Dhankhar highlighted that while the government has prioritized science and technology, more needs to be done in terms of corporate investment in R&D.
He called on Indian corporations, particularly those in sectors like automobile and information technology, to increase their involvement in research efforts. “Research is not just academic—it must lead to real progress,” he said.
The Vice President lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for the scientific community, acknowledging a shift in the ecosystem where scientists now receive the recognition they deserve.
He emphasized that CSIR plays a critical role in shaping India’s scientific future, terming the institution a “Catalyst for Scientifically Imaginative Rashtra.”
Earlier, Dhankhar inaugurated the CSIR Thematic Exhibition 2024 at the National Agricultural Science Complex.
Key dignitaries present included PSA to GoI Prof. Ajay K. Sood, former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishanan, and CSIR Director General Dr. N. Kalaiselvi.
