Mumbai, 15th Sept. In a veiled attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday slammed Gandhi’s recent comments on “ending reservation” during his visit to the United States. Dhankhar said that such remarks by an individual holding a constitutional post reflect an “anti-constitutional mindset.”

Speaking at a public event in Mumbai, Dhankhar underscored the need for greater awareness about India’s Constitution, as he believes some have forgotten its core principles.

“A person from a constitutional post saying on foreign soil that reservation should be ended underscores the same anti-constitutional mindset. The baton of prejudices against reservation has been handed over,” Dhankhar remarked.

He defended the reservation system, stating that it is not opposed to meritocracy but is instead an essential part of the country’s Constitution. “Reservation is the soul of the country and the Constitution. It is affirmative action, not negative. It does not deprive anyone of opportunity, but rather supports those who are the pillars of society,” the Vice President added.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, recently commented during his U.S. visit that the Congress would consider scrapping reservations when “India becomes a fair place,” asserting that fairness is not currently prevalent.
