Aligarh, 21st Oct. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of overlooked figures in India’s freedom struggle during his address at the first convocation of Raja Mahendra Pratap University on Monday. He urged the next generation of historians to spotlight the roles played by these “forgotten heroes.”
Dhankhar expressed pride in being invited to deliver the inaugural convocation address at a university named after Raja Mahendra Pratap, a prominent freedom fighter and patriot of the 20th century. He remarked, “This University is a befitting tribute to this national hero who dedicated his entire life for the cause of India’s freedom and also for the cause of modern education in India.”
Highlighting the significant contributions of Raja Mahendra Pratap, the Vice President noted that he was the founding father of India’s first provisional government in exile, established in Kabul in 1915. Dhankhar reflected on Pratap’s long exile, during which he persistently fought for India’s independence.
The Vice President underscored the need for future historians to recognize the efforts of other unsung heroes of the freedom movement, stating, “The next generation of historians of the freedom movement of India should highlight the role of many other such forgotten heroes.”
Additionally, Dhankhar praised Raja Mahendra Pratap’s commitment to education, pointing out that in 1909, he founded an institution in Mathura named Prem Mahavidyalaya and generously donated land for its establishment. His dual legacy of patriotism and educational advancement continues to inspire future generations, as highlighted during this significant convocation ceremony.
