New Delhi/Frankfurt, 19th Oct. A London-bound Vistara flight from Delhi was diverted to Frankfurt on Friday following a bomb threat that later proved to be a hoax, officials confirmed on Saturday. The airline’s spokesperson said that the flight landed safely at Frankfurt airport, where it underwent security checks. Once cleared, the aircraft resumed its journey and arrived in London around 11:40 pm local time.

“Vistara flight UK17, operating from Delhi to London on October 18, 2024, received a security threat on social media. In line with protocol, all relevant authorities were notified, and as a precautionary measure, the pilots diverted the flight to Frankfurt,” the spokesperson stated.

The incident follows a similar security alert involving Akasa Air. The airline reported that its Bengaluru to Mumbai flight QP 1366, scheduled for Friday, received a security alert just before departure. As a safety measure, all passengers were deplaned, and local authorities conducted necessary procedures. Akasa Air expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, emphasizing that passenger safety was their top priority.

These incidents come amid a wave of bomb threats targeting Indian airlines, with nearly 40 flights receiving similar alerts in recent days. All have been deemed hoaxes after thorough checks.

In response to the rising number of hoax threats, the Civil Aviation Ministry is working to implement stricter regulations to deter such incidents. This includes potentially placing individuals responsible for hoax threats on a no-fly list, aiming to ensure the safety of passengers and minimize disruptions to flight operations.
