Wardha, 20th Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the National PM Vishwakarma Program in Wardha, Maharashtra, today, launching two key initiatives aimed at skill development and women entrepreneurship. The Prime Minister unveiled the Acharya Chanakya Skill Development Scheme and the Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar Women Start-Up Scheme, aimed at empowering India’s traditional artisans and promoting women entrepreneurs.
During the event, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Amravati. This initiative is part of the government’s vision to revive India’s textile industry and position it as a global leader. “Today’s India is working to take its textile industry to the top in the global market,” PM Modi remarked, emphasizing the government’s commitment to uplifting the sector through the “Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Fabric, Fabric to Fashion, Fashion to Foreign” approach.
Highlighting the significance of the PM Vishwakarma Yojna, the Prime Minister said, “With Vishwakarma Yojna, we have resolved for prosperity and a better tomorrow through labour and skill development.” He praised the artisans who have contributed to India’s prosperity for centuries, acknowledging their crucial role in the country’s development.
PM Modi also released certificates and loans to beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma scheme and unveiled a commemorative stamp to mark one year of progress under the program. He noted that more than 20 lakh artisans, representing 18 traditional skills, have been connected to the scheme within a year, with over 60,000 beneficiaries in Maharashtra alone. The program provides modern equipment, skill training, and loans of up to ₹3 lakh without guarantees to support and grow these traditional professions.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of reviving age-old skills that were neglected by previous governments, stating that “the basic spirit of Vishwakarma Yojna is ‘Samman, Samarthya, Samridhi’—Respect, Capability, and Prosperity.” He reiterated the government’s focus on promoting artisans as not just craftsmen but also entrepreneurs, with the goal of integrating them into larger supply chains through initiatives like One District One Product and Ekta Mall.
As part of the day’s events, PM Modi took a walkthrough of the exhibition, showcasing various traditional crafts and modern tools being used under the Vishwakarma scheme. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the livelihood of artisans, particularly from SC, ST, and OBC communities, who have benefited the most from the program.
In addition to supporting artisans, PM Modi also highlighted the massive job creation potential of the PM MITRA Park in Amravati, stating that the park alone could generate over one lakh new employment opportunities. “Maharashtra has geared up for a new industrial revolution,” the Prime Minister said, mentioning the infrastructure developments, including new highways and expressways, that will complement the state’s growing industrial base.
PM Modi concluded by reminding the audience of the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by farmers in the region, including the launch of irrigation projects and tax relief measures for onion and soybean farmers. He urged citizens to stay united in their pursuit of development and not be swayed by divisive forces.
