Shahibaug, 3rd Oct. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that incidents of violence have decreased by 70% in the three major “hotspots” of Kashmir, the Northeast, and regions affected by Naxalism over the last decade.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new office building of the Ahmedabad police commissioner and the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in the Shahibaug area, he stated that deaths resulting from such incidents in these areas have also fallen by 72%.
During his two-day visit to Gujarat, Shah attributed the significant improvement in security to the strong determination and pro-development approach of the Narendra Modi government. He highlighted the transformation in regions once known for violence, stating, “A decade ago, bomb blasts used to happen at regular intervals in these hotspots. It was so common that such incidents were not even covered in the news.”
The Home Minister emphasized that the concerted efforts of the Centre under Modi’s leadership have put India on a path toward becoming a nation free from terrorism and Naxalism. He stated, “Thanks to the efforts of the Centre, incidents of violence have decreased by 70%, and deaths due to such incidents also went down by 72% in the last ten years.”
Shah also discussed the implementation of three new criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. He assured that once the necessary infrastructure is established, citizens could expect justice within three years, from the registration of the First Information Report (FIR) to a hearing in the Supreme Court.
