Nagpur- Nagpur witnessed violent clashes on Monday night following rumors that a holy book was desecrated during a right-wing agitation demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb. Several houses, vehicles, and a clinic were vandalized, prompting police to impose prohibitory orders in several areas.

Violence first broke out around 7:30 PM in central Nagpur’s Mahal area, where stones were hurled at police, leaving six civilians and three policemen injured. Another clash occurred between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM in the Hansapuri area near Old Bhandara Road, where rioters set vehicles ablaze and damaged homes and shops.
Eyewitnesses reported that mobs vandalized cars, broke windows, and set fires while some residents worked to douse flames. The worst-hit areas were along the Chitnis Park to Shukrawari Talao road belt, where four-wheelers were torched. Several locals have demanded immediate police action against those responsible.
Police conducted combing operations and arrested 15 people. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari have appealed for peace. The situation is currently under control, and Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule is set to visit the affected areas today.
