New Delhi, 27th Sept. Indian wrestling champion Vinesh Phogat faces growing difficulties as the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has issued her a notice and requested a response within 14 days. NADA sent the notice due to Phogat’s failure to provide her whereabouts for doping tests, a requirement for all athletes registered in NADA’s Registered Testing Pool (RTP).
NADA’s regulations mandate athletes to keep their whereabouts updated to facilitate doping tests. The notice was issued after Phogat was not available at her home in Kharkhoda, Sonipat, on September 9, when a doping control officer attempted to conduct a test. This failure to be present at the listed location is considered a breach of NADA’s regulations. However, this is not classified as a direct violation of anti-doping rules unless it happens three times within a 12-month period.
Vinesh Phogat now has two options—either to acknowledge the violation or provide evidence that she was present at her residence for the required 60-minute window on the scheduled day. The notice further stated that Phogat’s failure to comply with the requirements of providing her whereabouts has resulted in the issuance of this formal notice.
NADA has granted Phogat an opportunity to explain her side of the issue before taking any final action.
