US President Trump Threatens Additional 50% Tariff On China Amid Trade Tensions

Published:

In a sharp escalation of trade tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to China, warning that if Beijing does not roll back its newly imposed 34% retaliatory tariffs by April 8, 2025, the United States will respond with an additional 50% tariff hike on Chinese imports.

Trump, in a strongly worded statement on his Truth Social platform, accused China of long-standing trade malpractices, including unfair tariffs, currency manipulation, and illegal subsidies. He condemned Beijing’s latest tariff increase as an act of retaliation and reiterated that any country imposing additional tariffs on the U.S. would face severe economic consequences.

“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” Trump declared.

Beyond the tariff threat, Trump signaled a diplomatic freeze with China, vowing to cut off all talks with Beijing. He emphasized that meetings requested by Chinese officials would be terminated, while negotiations with other nations would take priority.

This latest warning intensifies the already fraught trade relationship between the U.S. and China. With the deadline looming, the world is watching closely to see whether China will de-escalate or whether a new wave of tariffs will further strain global markets.
