United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is set to arrive in India for a two-day visit on January 5 and 6, marking another pivotal moment in the deepening partnership between Washington and New Delhi. The visit, confirmed by the White House and India’s Ministry of External Affairs, is packed with high-profile engagements aimed at bolstering cooperation across key sectors, including defense, technology, and regional security.
Sullivan’s itinerary features a significant meeting with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. This dialogue is expected to cover a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from defense and space collaboration to strategic technology and shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific. The meeting will serve as a “capstone discussion” to showcase the progress made in strengthening ties between the two nations, said Sean Savett, spokesperson for the US National Security Council.
Beyond his discussions with Doval, Sullivan will meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other senior Indian leaders to further align the bilateral agenda. The talks come at a time when both nations are advancing initiatives like the U.S.-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), which seeks to accelerate innovation and tech-driven collaboration.
A key highlight of Sullivan’s visit will be his engagement with India’s innovation ecosystem. He is scheduled to visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he will interact with young entrepreneurs and deliver a speech. His address is expected to emphasize the strides made under the iCET framework and the potential for India and the U.S. to co-lead in critical technology sectors.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby emphasized the strategic significance of the visit, noting that it will be Sullivan’s final trip to the Indo-Pacific as NSA.
