Washington, 23rd Sept. The United States and India have announced a comprehensive roadmap aimed at bolstering collaboration in building safe and secure global clean energy supply chains. This initiative focuses on enhancing clean energy manufacturing capabilities, accelerating global deployment, and achieving climate goals. It emphasizes creating high-quality jobs and fostering cooperation in third countries, particularly in Africa.
As part of this initiative, both nations will unlock $1 billion in new financing through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to support India’s clean energy supply chain, with a focus on solar, wind, battery storage, and energy grid systems.
The collaboration also includes partnerships with private sectors and multilateral development banks to initiate pilot projects that expand manufacturing capacity for key clean energy components.
This initiative stems from previous clean energy agreements established during Prime Minister Modi’s 2023 visit to the U.S. and aims to strengthen the foundation for sustainable economic development through cutting-edge clean energy manufacturing techniques.
Key focus areas include solar wafers, wind turbine components, energy storage systems, and components for electric vehicles. The U.S. and India will also explore opportunities in Africa, working with local manufacturers to advance solar and EV deployment.
This roadmap serves as a preliminary framework to guide short-term projects and inform long-term collaboration in clean energy, positioning both nations as leaders in the global clean energy transition.
