Sukma- Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Saturday morning, police said.

The gunfight occurred in a forest under the Kistaram police station area, where a joint team of security forces was conducting an anti-Maoist operation, according to Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan.
Personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit of the CRPF were part of the operation, which was launched on Friday based on intelligence inputs regarding Maoist movement in the region.
Bodies of two Maoists have been recovered from the encounter site, and a search operation is still ongoing, officials said.
With this latest encounter, a total of 83 Maoists have been killed in separate skirmishes in Chhattisgarh this year. Of these, 67 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes seven districts, including Sukma.
Security forces have intensified operations in Maoist-affected areas as part of the ongoing counterinsurgency efforts in the region.
