Dhule, 4th Dec. Police have apprehended two absconding accused involved in the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district. The arrests were made in Dhule, an official confirmed on Saturday.
The arrested individuals, Sudarshan Chandrabhan Ghule (26) and Sudhir Sangle (23), have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is leading the probe into the high-profile case.
Deshmukh was abducted, tortured, and murdered on December 9 after attempting to halt an extortion attempt on a windmill energy project in the region. The extortion case has already led to the arrest of Walmik Karad, an associate of Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde.
Efforts to apprehend three accused on the run had intensified with multiple police teams deployed and the formation of an SIT. Using technical expertise, informants, and strategic interrogations, the authorities traced and arrested Ghule and Sangle.
Investigations are ongoing to track the remaining suspects and uncover further details in the case.
