Chennai/New Delhi, 16th Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Tuticorin International Container Terminal in Tamil Nadu via video message, marking a major advancement in India’s maritime infrastructure.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi hailed the new terminal as the ‘new star of India’s marine infrastructure,’ noting its role in expanding the capacity of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port.

“With a deep draft of over 14 meters and a berth more than 300 meters long, this terminal will be crucial in enhancing the port’s capacity,” he stated. He also highlighted the terminal’s potential to reduce logistics costs and save foreign exchange.

Modi praised the people of Tamil Nadu for their role in driving economic growth, mentioning that the state, with its three major and seventeen non-major ports, has become a significant hub for maritime trade. “India is showing the world the path to sustainable and forward-thinking development,” Modi said, adding that innovation and collaboration are key strengths in India’s development journey.
