US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Monday that he has selected Warren Stephens, a billionaire investment banker, as his nominee for US ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Stephens, a long-time Republican donor, was previously reported to have opposed Trump and contributed to efforts aimed at blocking Trump’s 2016 presidential primary bid. However, Stephens later supported Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign, donating to a political action committee that backed him.
In a statement, Trump expressed his excitement, saying, “Warren has always dreamed of serving the United States full time. I am thrilled that he will now have that opportunity as the top diplomat, representing the U.S.A. to one of America’s most cherished and beloved allies.”
This appointment is part of a series of nominations Trump has made in advance of his January 20 inauguration. Recently, he also named Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the US ambassador to France.
During his first term, Trump had appointed another billionaire and campaign supporter, businessman Woody Johnson, as the US ambassador to Britain.
