Hyderabad, 28th Sept. Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan virtually laid the foundation stone for the Executive Hostel Block and Training Block of the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) in Hyderabad. During the ceremony, he emphasized the importance of training in shaping the future of Indian agriculture.

Chouhan stressed that training modules should evolve beyond traditional approaches to meet modern-day agricultural needs. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of boosting farmers’ income and enhancing food security for India’s 140 crore population. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy,” Chouhan stated, “and we must ensure both livelihood and food security.”

The Minister also underscored the growing need for natural farming, citing the harmful effects of excessive fertilizer use on soil and human health. He called for incorporating natural farming into training programs to promote sustainable agricultural practices.

In addition to agricultural extension training, Chouhan emphasized the role of startups, university faculty, FPOs, and input dealers in advancing the sector. He urged the institute to plan future-oriented training that addresses upcoming challenges in agriculture, stating, “Training will decide the direction and condition of agriculture.”

During the event, Chouhan, who was in Daltonganj, Jharkhand, announced the government’s decision to purchase pigeon pea, a crop that has seen declining cultivation due to poor pricing. He encouraged local farmers to increase the production of pigeon pea, gram, lentils, and pulses. A study team will also be sent to explore ways to improve crop yields and seed quality in the region.
