Kolkata, 28th September. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) students’ wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), took disciplinary action on Friday by suspending two senior members, Prantik Chakraborty and Rajanya Haldar, after they produced and promoted a short film linked to the controversial rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The film, titled Agamani, Tilottomader Galpo (The Tale of Tilottomas), sparked controversy when Rajanya Haldar posted its poster on social media, accompanied by the tagline, “in the backdrop of RG Kar incident.” Directed by Prantik Chakraborty, the film is scheduled for release in early October.

TMCP state president Trinankur Bhattacharya issued a statement declaring that both members were suspended for “anti-party activities.” The suspension will remain effective until the party’s disciplinary committee reaches a final verdict on the matter, as reported by PTI.

The decision highlights TMCP’s move to distance itself from the film, which touches on a highly sensitive and tragic case that has already drawn significant public attention. The film’s connection to the RG Kar incident, where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered, has raised concerns about the exploitation of the event for creative purposes.

Further details and reactions from the suspended members or party leaders are awaited as the disciplinary process unfolds.
