Tirupati, 24th Sept. To restore the sanctity of the Tirumala temple, a four-hour Shanti Homam Panchagavya Prokshana ritual was conducted on Monday, September 23. This ritualistic sanitization was aimed at undoing the alleged desecrations that occurred during the YSRCP regime, particularly the accusations surrounding the use of animal fats in the preparation of the famous Tirupati laddus.
The ceremony, which commenced at 6 AM and concluded around 10 AM, was confirmed by sources within the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). TTD executive officer J Shyamala Rao stated that the ritual was designed to propitiate Lord Venkateswara Swamy and to alleviate the perceived ill effects caused by the alleged sacrilegious practices. The intention was to restore the sanctity of the laddu prasadams (consecrated food) and to ensure the well-being of the devotees.
In response to the controversy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged misuse of power and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Addressing the media at his residence in Undavalli, Naidu emphasized that people’s sentiments had been hurt and assured that the government would take stringent action to prevent any future occurrences of laddu adulteration. “Nobody has the right to play with people’s sentiments,” he stated.
The fallout from the alleged adulteration has resonated beyond Andhra Pradesh. In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the renowned Mankameshwar Temple has responded by banning market-bought offerings (prasad). Mahant Divyagiri issued an official notification instructing devotees to bring only homemade offerings or dry fruits for rituals within the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, reflecting the widespread concern over the sanctity of religious practices.
