New Delhi, 26th Sept. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to the nation today via video conferencing, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in computing and technological innovation. The supercomputers, developed indigenously under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) at an estimated cost of ₹130 crore, will be located in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata, aimed at facilitating advanced scientific research across multiple disciplines.
During the virtual inauguration, PM Modi also introduced a High-Performance Computing (HPC) system designed specifically for weather and climate research. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives in enhancing India’s scientific capabilities and driving development in the era of digital revolution. “With Param Rudra Supercomputers and the HPC system, India takes a significant step toward self-reliance in computing and driving innovation in science and technology,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the supercomputers will aid in crucial research areas, including physics, earth sciences, and cosmology. He stressed that today, computing capacity is synonymous with national capability and emphasized the need for India to not only match global standards but to lead in technological advancements.
“Self-reliance through research, Science for Self-Reliance has become our mantra,” Modi stated, reiterating the government’s commitment to empowering citizens through technological progress. He noted that initiatives like Digital India, Startup India, and Make In India are central to this vision.
The Prime Minister elaborated on the practical implications of the supercomputers, stating they would significantly enhance weather forecasting capabilities, benefiting farmers and fishermen with accurate predictions and insights. “Supercomputers will ensure that even the smallest farmer has access to the world’s best knowledge, helping them make informed decisions about their crops,” he added.
Highlighting India’s recent accomplishments in space exploration, including the successful landing near the moon’s South Pole, Modi stated that India is emerging as a significant power in the space sector. He outlined the government’s plans for future advancements, including the Gaganyaan Mission and the establishment of an Indian space station by 2035.
In conclusion, PM Modi congratulated the scientific community and urged young researchers to leverage these advanced facilities to explore new domains in science, promising that these technological advancements will translate into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens and position India competitively on the global stage.
Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, was also present at the event, reinforcing the government’s dedication to advancing India’s computing capabilities for the betterment of society.
