Third Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump Averted in California

Published:

A third possible assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump has been averted on Saturday. The police arrested a man outside Trump’s rally in California for illegal possession of a shotgun and a loaded handgun.

According to reports, Riverside County Sheriff on Saturday arrested a man with a shotgun, loaded handgun, ammunition and several fake passports in his vehicle outside Trump’s rally.

“We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said, as quoted by the New York Post.

The 49-year-old man from Las Vegas has been identified as Vem Miller.  According to reports, he was driving an unregistered SUV with a homemade license plate when Riverside County deputies intercepted him.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department inmate database, he was released Saturday on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Indio Larson Justice Center on January 2, 2025.

The Secret Service put out a statement saying it was aware of the arrest. “The incident did not impact protective operations. The Secret Service extends its gratitude to the deputies and local partners who assisted in safeguarding last night’s events,” the agency said.

Who is Vem Miller?

Miller holds a master’s degree from UCLA.

He is a registered Republican who ran for state assembly in Nevada in 2022, a report said.

Sheriff Bianco stated that Miller appeared to be associated with the “sovereign citizen” movement, a right-wing group that rejects the authority of the government. He described Miller as a “lunatic” with “fringe” anti-government views.

The Past Two Attempts

In the past two months, Donald Trump has become the target of two assassination attempts. Several rounds of bullets were fired near Trump’s house in California in September.

During his rally in July, the Republican presidential candidate was shot in the ear.
