Almost all of the 35 athletes who came to the Trailblazers conclave have written to us congratulating RevSportz for the incredibly successful event. Some have tweeted saying this was the best sports summit they have attended. But that’s not the point of this piece. The subject of this column is something entirely different. As a matter of fact, my phone hasn’t stopped buzzing and I have received more than a thousand messages congratulating me for the effort.

The truth is it was not me that managed to pull it off. It is always “We”. Team RevSportz. Also, while many of us were seen on stage and in videos and photos, the backstage people who worked tirelessly for months to make an event of this scale happen are my real stars, who need to, and deserve to, be celebrated. They are the subject of this piece – my team who worked for weeks and months, and delivered what I can easily say was the best conclave of my career.
Umakanta Roy and Raja Chowdhury – you will never see them in front of the camera. And yet, they were key to the success of the conclave. A very important athlete had missed his flight. He was late getting to the airport and the gate was closed. When Umakanta was informed about it by the athlete’s manager, he instantly bought a ticket and put him on the next flight. The athlete in question reached the venue at 4:50pm for a 5pm session. All worked like clockwork.

Manu Bhaker’s flight was delayed by an hour and a half because of a medical emergency. She finally landed at 3:45pm for a 5pm programme. By 5:15pm, she was in the auditorium and the show had started.

A very important announcement was made by one of our key sponsors at the conclave. We needed a new set of creatives to push the story out. Come in Raja Chowdhury. Within an hour, the campaign was ready to be rolled out and the sponsor was beyond stunned!
Each one of our young editors stepped up to ensure that news was broken real time, and multiple headlines from the conclave were picked up by the media nationally. Not one of the 65 speakers faced any logistical issues, and each session started and ended on time, a very un-Indian trait.
Finally, in an event of this scale, coordinating activities on stage can be a real nightmare. We wanted to make it memorable for our speakers, and give them something to take back home as a memory from the conclave. To ensure that speaker gifts were all ready to be handed over, and each was correct, was a challenge of humungous proportions. Pampa Roy, supported by a body of our interns, did it to perfection.
To come back to what I started with – some of us are seen at the forefront and on stage. But the backstory is as important and as critical to the success of the event. While many come and take selfies and autographs, I will have fond memories of the photograph I took with the team at the end of the conclave. To each one of you who made it what it was – Onwards and Upwards.
