Kathua, 30th Sept. A terrorist was killed on Sunday in an ongoing operation in a remote village in Kathua district, bringing the death toll in the incident to two, officials said.

The body of the terrorist was recovered from Kog-Mandli in Billawar tehsil, where a massive search operation has been underway for the second day. The encounter was launched following intelligence reports about the presence of three to four foreign terrorists in the area, according to Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain.

The operation began on Saturday after terrorists opened fire on a joint security search party, resulting in the death of a policeman, Head Constable Bashir Ahmad, and injuries to two officers, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), who are now in stable condition.

Speaking to reporters near the encounter site, ADGP Jain said the operation is ongoing to neutralize the remaining terrorists hiding in the area. He noted that continuous efforts are being made to gather intelligence and eliminate terror threats as soon as possible.

With the third phase of polls approaching on October 1, security has been tightened across poll-bound areas, including Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, and districts in North Kashmir like Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora. Jain assured that adequate security measures are in place to ensure a violence-free election process.
