Tamil is a Sweet Language; PM Wants Every Language to Get Due Respect”: Ashwini Vaishnaw on Hindi Controversy

Published:

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing debate over the Hindi language and linguistic diversity in India, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi respects all Indian languages, including Tamil, which he described as a sweet and ancient language.

Speaking on the issue, Vaishnaw stated:

“PM Modi believes that every language in India should be given due respect. Tamil is a sweet language with a rich heritage, and our government has always worked towards promoting linguistic harmony.”

His remarks come at a time when debates around the status of Hindi in non-Hindi-speaking states have intensified. Southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu, have opposed any imposition of Hindi, advocating for the protection and promotion of regional languages.

The Union Minister further stressed that PM Modi has taken several initiatives to honor Tamil language and culture, including his references to Tamil heritage in global forums and efforts to promote classical Tamil literature.

The statement is seen as a strategic effort by the BJP to reinforce its stance on linguistic inclusivity while addressing concerns raised by regional parties, particularly in Tamil Nadu. With the 2024 elections behind, language politics remains a crucial issue in shaping regional and national discourse.
