Ghazipur, 31st Jan. A tragic road accident claimed the lives of six Maha Kumbh pilgrims on Saturday after a trailer truck collided with the pickup truck they were traveling in. The accident occurred on the Varanasi-Gorakhpur highway near Kusumhi Kalan village in Ghazipur district.
The deceased include two men, two women, and two children, while ten others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. The pilgrims were returning home after taking a holy dip at Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh when the fatal collision took place.
Heart-wrenching visuals from the accident site showed devotees lying on the road with their belongings scattered. Emergency services and police officials quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and assist the injured.
This accident comes days after a deadly stampede at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh, where 30 people lost their lives and 60 others were injured on ‘Mauni Amavasya’—one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar.
The ongoing Mahakumbh 2025, which began on January 13 and will conclude on February 26, has witnessed an unprecedented turnout. According to official estimates, over 20 crore devotees have taken the sacred dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, marking the grand spiritual gathering.
