Gopeshwar, 5th Oct. Search operations were resumed on Saturday to trace two mountaineers, Michelle Theresa Dvorak from the USA and Fav Jane Manners from the UK, stranded at Chaukhamba III in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. The mountaineers have been stuck at an altitude of over 6,000 metres since Thursday.

A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) mountaineers arrived at Jyotirmath (Joshimath) to assist in the rescue efforts. Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari informed PTI that another rescue team would be flown in soon to expedite the search.

Two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters deployed on Friday were unsuccessful in locating the duo after a daylong operation. The mountaineers, part of an expedition organized by the India Mountaineering Foundation, encountered difficulties when their logistical and technical equipment fell while they were at a height of 6,015 metres en route to Chaukhamba III, which stands at 6,995 metres.

Authorities remain hopeful of locating the stranded mountaineers soon.
