Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced a ‘Satyagraha’ (protest) on February 27 against what it calls the “biggest dacoity” in Indian democracy during the Milkipur Assembly bypolls, party MP Awadesh Prasad said on Sunday.

The protest follows the resounding victory of BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan, who defeated SP’s Ajit Prasad by a margin of 61,710 votes in the Milkipur bypoll held in early February.
SP’s Allegations of Electoral Misconduct
Speaking to ANI, Awadesh Prasad accused the ruling BJP of orchestrating electoral malpractice.
“The Samajwadi Party is always prepared to fight injustice and atrocities. We have announced the ‘Satyagraha’ on February 27 because great injustice was done in Ayodhya, the land of Lord Rama. The bypoll in Milkipur Assembly on February 5 was the biggest dacoity in Hindustan. It was a dacoity of democracy, a dacoity of the voting rights of citizens given by Baba Ambedkar. In this dacoity, all the booths of the assembly were looted by the government,” Prasad claimed.
The Milkipur bypoll was necessitated after Awadhesh Prasad vacated the seat, following his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Faizabad, which includes the Ayodhya assembly segment.
BJP’s Strong Performance and SP’s Setback
In the bypoll, SP fielded Awadesh Prasad’s son, Ajit Prasad, who secured only 84,687 votes, significantly trailing behind BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan, who received 1,46,397 votes.
Following BJP’s dominant performance, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a swipe at SP, asserting that the results signaled an end to the party’s “politics of family rule and falsehood.”
“The results of the Milkipur by-elections will put a full stop to the politics of ‘pariwarwad’ (dynasty politics) and lies. The people have made it clear that no matter how much propaganda is done by the Samajwadi Party, the public will punish them,” CM Yogi stated.
Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP of Electoral Manipulation
Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of “misusing electoral machinery” to win the bypoll.
In a strongly worded statement on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav alleged that the BJP “cannot face the growing power of PDA (Pichda, Dalit, and Alpasankhyak) purely through votes and resorts to manipulation instead.”
“The level of manipulation required to execute such electoral fraud may be possible in one assembly constituency, but this ‘four hundred BC’ (fraud) will not work in 403 constituencies. BJP members also know this, which is why they deliberately postponed the Milkipur by-election,” Yadav wrote.
Political Tensions Escalate Ahead of Protest
The upcoming ‘Satyagraha’ protest by SP on February 27 is expected to further intensify the political battle between the ruling BJP and the opposition SP. With SP leaders accusing the government of electoral malpractice and BJP dismissing the claims as excuses, the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh remains charged ahead of the 2024 general elections.
