India showcased an exceptional display of talent on the second day of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 in New Delhi, with Rinku Hooda stealing the spotlight in the men’s javelin events. Competing in the F46 category, Rinku secured the gold medal with an impressive throw of 60.26 meters, continuing his stellar form after victories at the 22nd National Para Athletics Championships in Goa and a silver finish at the fourth Asian Para Games. India’s dominance extended to the men’s javelin F12, F37, F42, and F43 combined category, where the home athletes claimed all three podium spots. Pushpendra Singh led the charge with a gold-winning throw of 57.57 meters, followed by Mohit (45.45 meters) securing silver and Jaswant (45.94 meters) taking bronze.
The hosts continued their golden streak in field events, with Ritender clinching the top spot in the men’s javelin F40/F41 category with a 30.33-meter effort. Kazakhstan’s Alexey Lukutin and Uzbekistan’s Yuldosbek Hajiev completed the podium. Meanwhile, in the men’s discus throw F56/F57 event, Atul Kaushik claimed gold for India with a 43.92-meter throw, while compatriot Ram Kumar Yadav followed with silver at 30.59 meters. The Philippines’ Maekel Lita secured bronze with 22.79 meters.
Indian women also made a strong impact. Svetlana Mironova dominated the shot put event with a throw of 13.97 meters, while Khushboo Gill (9.52 meters) and Ananya Bansal (7.73 meters) secured silver and bronze, respectively. In the women’s javelin F34 category, Baghyashri Madhavrao Jadhav won gold with a 12.73-meter effort, narrowly beating Uzbekistan’s Dilsuz Ziyodulloeva (11.30 meters), while Mubina claimed bronze.
On the track, Botswana’s Edwin Masuage sprinted to gold in the men’s 400 meters T13/T20 category with a time of 50.60 seconds, closely followed by Denis Shabalin, a Neutral Para Athlete, who clocked 50.40 seconds for silver. Botswana’s Bose Mokgwathi secured bronze with 50.81 seconds. In the men’s 400 meters T35/T36 event, Mikhail Kuskus claimed gold with 56.10 seconds, while India’s Abhishek Babasaheb Jadhav took silver (64.09 seconds), and Kirill Glazyrin earned bronze.
In the men’s long jump T20/T36/T37 event, Neutral Para Athlete Matvei Lakushev soared to gold with a 7.17-meter jump, followed by Chermen Kobesov (5.86 meters) in silver and Oman’s Taha Al Harrasi (5.13 meters) in bronze. Sri Lanka’s Anil Prasanna secured gold in the men’s long jump T42/T44 category with a 5.36-meter leap, while India’s Mit Bharatbhai Patel and Ramsinghbhai Govindbhai took silver and bronze, respectively.
Brazil’s Bartolomeu Da Silva dominated the men’s 400 meters T37 event with a 52-second finish, while Neutral Para Athletes Anton and Andrei completed the podium. Meanwhile, India excelled in the men’s 400 meters T47 event, with Dilip Mahadu Gavit clinching gold in 48.78 seconds. Indian Army’s Jasbeer (49.64 seconds) earned silver, and Bhavikkumar Dineshbhai (50.32 seconds) took bronze.
The men’s long jump T47 event saw Neutral Para Athlete Nikita Kotukov claim gold with a 6.79-meter effort, Sri Lanka’s Buddika Fernando secure silver (6.61 meters), and India’s Ajay Singh take bronze (6.18 meters).
India’s remarkable success, particularly in javelin, reinforced the nation’s rising stature in para athletics, setting a strong tone for the rest of the Grand Prix.
