New Delhi, 26th Jan. Bharat marked its 76th Republic Day today with a spectacular parade at Kartavya Path, showcasing the nation’s cultural diversity, military prowess, and technological advancements. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the celebrations, while Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, symbolizing strong ties between Bharat and Southeast Asia.
The event, themed “Swarnim Bharat: Heritage and Progress”, featured around 10,000 special guests from diverse walks of life, including achievers in various fields and beneficiaries of government schemes, embodying the government’s push for increased ‘Jan Bhagidari’ (people’s participation) in national celebrations.
Highlights of the Parade
Women’s Representation and Nari Shakti
For the first time in Republic Day history, women Agniveers participated in the Indian Navy contingent, exemplifying the growing role of women in Bharat’s armed forces. A 148-member all-women CRPF contingent led by Assistant Commandant Aishwarya Joy M. and an all-women NCC contingent further emphasized India’s commitment to gender equality.
Veteran women officers from all three armed forces, including Lieutenant Colonel Ravinderjeet Randhawa, Lieutenant Commander Mani Agarwal, and Flight Lieutenant Ruchi Saha, showcased the pivotal role of women in the nation’s defence forces.
Military Prowess and Technological Advancements
The parade featured the first-ever tri-services tableau themed “Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat”, demonstrating joint operations across land, air, and sea, and highlighting indigenous platforms like the Arjun Main Battle Tank, Tejas MKII, INS Visakhapatnam, and Advanced Light Helicopters.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) displayed cutting-edge innovations under the theme “Raksha Kavach – Multi-layer Protection against Multi-domain Threats,” including drone defence systems, satellite surveillance, advanced artillery systems, and secure satellite phones.
International Participation
For the first time, a marching contingent of 152 cadets and 190 members of a military band from Indonesia participated, reflecting Bharat’s expanding diplomatic ties in Southeast Asia.
Tribute to Veterans and Gallantry Award Winners
The parade honored veterans, including Padma Shri awardee and para-athlete Subedar Murlikant Petkar, as well as gallantry award winners like Param Vir Chakra recipients Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav (Retd) and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar (Retd).
Cultural and Artistic Splendor
The cultural section featured tableaux from 16 states and Union Territories and 10 central ministries, highlighting India’s progress and heritage. A standout performance included 300 cultural artists playing the patriotic tune “Sare Jahan Se Achha” on traditional Bharatiya instruments, resonating with the diversity and unity of the nation.
Daring Displays and Aerial Spectacles
The Corps of Signals’ ‘Dare Devils’ motorcycle team performed awe-inspiring stunts, while the much-anticipated fly-past included 40 aircraft and helicopters from the Indian Air Force, showcasing Rafale, Su-30 MKI, Apache, and MiG-29 in a dazzling air show.
Conclusion of the Ceremony
The event concluded with a grand finale featuring a 21-gun salute, the unfurling of the National Flag, and the release of balloons celebrating 75 years of the Bharatiya Constitution, symbolizing the nation’s journey of resilience, progress, and unity.
Republic Day 2025 was a testament to Bharat’s heritage, its strides towards self-reliance, and its unwavering commitment to unity and equality, setting a benchmark for celebrations in the years to come.
