Gujarat Titans (GT) wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler admitted that his mistakes behind the stumps fueled his determination to make amends with the bat, helping his team secure their first away win of IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Playing an important role in GT’s third victory at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Buttler made light work of the 170-run chase, blasting an unbeaten 73 off 39 balls. His explosive knock ensured GT wrapped up the game within 18 overs.

I was deteremined to score runs: Buttler

While he had a brilliant night with the bat, the Titans’ wicketkeeper was not at his best behind the stumps. He dropped his countryman, Phil Salt, in the first over of the match and had a few slip-ups while keeping wickets.

“I was pretty embarrassed, especially with [dropping] Salty. He’s a dangerous player. So the only thing I can think of, I was trying to throw it up to earlier, a bit like Herschelle Gibbs style [who dropped Steve Waugh similarly during the 1999 World Cup] but I didn’t even… I barely got a glove on it, it hit me in the chest. But due to that embarrassment, I was pretty determined to try and score some runs,” Jos Buttler told broadcasters after playing a match-winning knock against RCB.

In his three outings for the 2022 IPL winners so far, Buttler has registered scores of 54, 39, and the latest match-winning 73*, making a strong impact early in the season while batting at a new position.
