New Delhi, 19th Sept. Union Minister of State for Food Processing, Ravneet Singh Bittu, remained resolute despite an FIR registered against him for alleged remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Bittu, facing the police complaint over comments he made regarding Gandhi’s statements on the condition of Sikhs in India during his US visit, said he stood by his words and would not be intimidated by legal actions.
The FIR was filed following a complaint from a Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee official, accusing Bittu of making inflammatory remarks in Bengaluru. The case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including promoting enmity and circulating false information.
In response, Bittu lashed out at the Congress Party, accusing it of using police complaints to silence dissent. “The Congress always tries to intimidate with FIRs, but I am not concerned,” he stated. Defending his stance, the minister remarked, “Rahul Gandhi can file 100 FIRs, but I will continue to speak for the unity of the country.”
Bittu, who is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, reiterated that his family has faced greater threats, referencing his grandfather’s assassination in a bomb blast. “I come from a family that never feared bullets,” he said, adding, “As a Sikh, I cannot go back on my words.”
Bittu’s controversial remarks against Gandhi came after the Congress leader’s comments about the Sikh community in India. In a previous statement, Bittu had attacked Gandhi, saying that those “manufacturing bombs” were supporting him, calling Gandhi the “number one terrorist.” The Congress condemned Bittu’s remarks, accusing him of speaking “like a senseless man.”
Despite the FIR, Bittu remains unshaken and continues to defend his position. The political tensions between the two leaders show no signs of abating as the case unfolds.
