Putin Congratulates Trump, Signals Willingness For Dialogue On Ukraine Conflict

Published:

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his congratulation to Donald Trump on the eve of his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States. During a meeting with Russia’s Security Council on Monday, Putin expressed optimism about the US-Russia relations under Trump’s leadership.

Putin underlined the importance of addressing the ongoing Ukraine conflict, which has been a major point of contention between Moscow and Washington since 2022. “”We are also open to dialogue with the new US administration about the Ukrainian conflict. The most important thing there is to eliminate the root causes of the crisis, which we have talked about many times,” Putin said.

In recent weeks, Putin has reiterated Russia’s willingness to normalise relations with the United States and other Western nations, provided that such efforts respect Russia’s national interest. The transition of power in Washington presents an opportunity for both nations to reevaluate their approach to international challenges and bilateral relations.

Trump, who is set to assume office, has pledged to being an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine, and vowed to address the global instability, including tensions in the middle east. He also expressed a commitment to preventing the outbreak of a global conflict.
