Prayagraj, 12th Jan. Prayagraj is all set for the 45-day Maha Kumbh, which begins on Monday, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
Ahead of the first ‘Shahi Snan,’ extensive arrangements have been made to accommodate devotees. Changing rooms have been installed along the riverbanks, and boatmen equipped with life jackets. Authorities have also fixed standard rates for boat rides to ensure transparency.
In a first, an underwater drone has been deployed to monitor underwater activities 24/7. Inspector General of Police (Eastern Zone), Rajiv Narayan Mishra, highlighted the drone’s advanced capabilities, including nighttime surveillance and reconnaissance up to a depth of 100 meters.
Security measures include PAC, NDRF, and SDRF teams stationed on 700 flagged boats and the placement of remote life-saving buoys. Key ‘Shahi Snan’ days—Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), and Basant Panchami (February 3)—are expected to draw massive crowds.
Prominent seers, including Naga Sadhus at Juna Akhara and spiritual leaders like Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri and Pilot Baba, are drawing domestic and international devotees to their camps.
However, some complaints regarding basic amenities persist. Devotees and camp organizers from sectors 6 to 19 reported issues like non-functional taps, delayed installations, and vacant plots despite prior allotments. Narendra Nath from Sector 15 claimed that only VIP and prominent areas were receiving proper attention.
