Thane, 7th Oct. In a key push to bolster urban mobility and infrastructure in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of projects worth over ₹32,800 crore in Thane. The focus of these projects is not just on enhancing transportation but also on setting a new trajectory for the region’s development, including the highly anticipated Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project.

A Step Towards “Viksit Bharat”
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized the broader vision of building a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). He highlighted that the projects launched are a testament to the government’s commitment to modernizing urban centers like Mumbai and Thane, making them future-ready. Modi stated, “Every decision, resolution, and dream of our Government is dedicated to Viksit Bharat,” positioning these developments as critical steps toward achieving this national objective.

Restoring Marathi Heritage and Cultural Pride
During his address, the Prime Minister also took a moment to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra, underscoring the recent recognition of Marathi as a classical language. He described this move as a tribute to Maharashtra’s contribution to India’s knowledge, philosophy, and literary tradition. This gesture was seen as an effort to deepen cultural pride among Marathi speakers globally.

Major Infrastructure Boost in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)
The Prime Minister highlighted the strategic significance of the new projects, which include investments of over ₹30,000 crore in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Among them, the foundation of the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, valued at over ₹12,000 crore, is expected to revolutionize travel across Mumbai and its adjoining areas. In addition, the launch of the Aqua Line Metro from Mumbai’s Aarey to BKC, realized with support from Japan’s JICA, was celebrated as a symbol of India-Japan cooperation.

Modi’s emphasis on improved connectivity was clear as he noted that the metro network in the region has grown to 300 kilometers. He underscored the positive impact of projects like the coastal road that has cut travel time between Marine Drive and Bandra to just 12 minutes, transforming the daily commute for Mumbaikars.

Reflecting on Past Governance and a Vision for Stability
Not shying away from critiques of previous governments, the Prime Minister asserted that past delays in infrastructure projects, such as the Mumbai Metro, led to significant cost overruns. He emphasized that the current administration’s proactive approach aims to correct past shortcomings and set new benchmarks for development. In a direct appeal to the public, he warned against the pitfalls of “appeasement politics” and urged support for a government with honest and stable policies.

Creating Opportunities and Economic Growth
In addition to easing urban mobility, Modi noted the projects’ potential to create new employment opportunities and spur industrial growth. He highlighted ongoing developments like the Versova-Bandra Sea Bridge and Thane-Borivali Tunnel as transformative ventures that will benefit residents and contribute to Mumbai’s economic vitality.

Concluding Remarks: Building a Modern Maharashtra
Prime Minister Modi concluded his address by stressing that building both physical and social infrastructure is crucial for Maharashtra’s progress. He expressed confidence in the state’s citizens to support the government’s ambitious goals, setting a tone of optimism for the region’s future.

The event, held in the presence of Maharashtra’s Governor C P Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, reflects a renewed commitment to developing Maharashtra as a key player in India’s growth story.
