Bangkok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his state visit to Thailand, was honored with the sacred scripture World Tipitaka, presented by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Thursday. The gesture symbolized the enduring spiritual connection between India and Thailand, both deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions.

The World Tipitaka, a meticulously compiled record of Lord Buddha’s teachings, was first published by the Thai government in 2016 to commemorate the 70-year reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and Queen Sirikit. The scripture, consisting of over nine million syllables from the Pali Tipitaka, has been shared with over 30 countries as a symbol of wisdom and peace.

Acknowledging the gesture, PM Modi recalled a recent cultural exchange between the two nations, when India sent the holy relics of Lord Buddha and his disciples to Thailand for public veneration.
The relics, which included those of Arahata Sariputra and Arahata Maudgalayana, were displayed at multiple locations across Thailand during a 26-day exposition, drawing millions of followers. Their return to India on March 19, 2024, was marked by full state honors, underscoring their spiritual significance.
Apart from this cultural exchange, PM Modi and his Thai counterpart engaged in discussions on strengthening bilateral ties, exploring avenues for cooperation in trade, technology, and cultural diplomacy.
