New York, 24th Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met To Lam, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in New York on September 23, 2024. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi congratulated President To Lam on his enhanced leadership role and expressed optimism about continuing collaboration to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Vietnam.
The Prime Minister extended his sympathies and solidarity to Vietnam in light of the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi earlier this month, highlighting India’s commitment to supporting its partner in times of crisis.
In response, President To Lam thanked Prime Minister Modi for India’s timely provision of emergency humanitarian assistance and disaster relief under Operation Sadbhav, underscoring the importance of solidarity during challenging times.
The discussions between the two leaders reaffirmed the significance of the deep civilizational and cultural links that connect India and Vietnam. They noted the growing strategic partnership, characterized by mutual trust, understanding, and shared interests.
The leaders recalled the recent visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh to India, emphasizing the prospects for advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Additionally, they exchanged views on key regional and global issues, including the Indo-Pacific region, and underscored the collective role of the Global South in international forums, highlighting the importance of cooperation and collaboration in addressing shared challenges.
