Colombo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Sri Lanka, met with leaders of the Indian-Origin Tamil (IOT) community in Colombo on Saturday, emphasizing their vital role as a “living bridge” between India and Sri Lanka for over two centuries.

Reaffirming India’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Indian-origin Tamil community, PM Modi announced several key initiatives aimed at their development. India will extend support for the construction of 10,000 houses, enhancement of healthcare facilities, and the development of the sacred Seetha Eliya temple. Additionally, various community development projects will be undertaken in collaboration with the Sri Lankan government.
The meeting underscored India’s continued efforts to uplift the Indian-origin Tamil population in Sri Lanka, ensuring their socio-economic progress and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi reached Colombo after concluding his visit to Thailand, where he attended the BIMSTEC Summit and held bilateral talks with several world leaders, including Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay.
