PM Modi Likely To Visit Thailand For BIMSTEC Summit

Published:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel to Bangkok from April 2 to 4 to participate in the sixth BIMSTEC Summit, marking his second official visit to Thailand since 2019. His previous visit was for the ASEAN Summits, where he was joined by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal.

The upcoming BIMSTEC Summit, hosted under Thailand’s leadership, will serve as a crucial platform for regional collaboration among South and Southeast Asian nations. The focus will be on fostering economic growth, strengthening resilience, and promoting open trade within the region—key pillars of the “PRO BIMSTEC” vision, which aims to drive prosperity by 2030.

Member countries—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—are set to discuss vital initiatives, including the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030, a roadmap for future cooperation, and the Eminent Persons’ Group Report, which will outline strategic directions for the bloc.

The summit will conclude with the adoption of the BIMSTEC Summit Declaration, underscoring collective commitments to economic integration and regional security.
