Varanasi, 20th Oct. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Sunday, aiming to provide comprehensive eye care services to residents across eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighboring regions. The hospital, managed by the Kanchi Math, is set to benefit people from 20 districts in Uttar Pradesh, as well as those living in the border areas of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

The RJ Sankara Eye Hospital marks the 14th such facility established by the Kanchi Math in India. According to representatives from the Kanchi Math, the hospital is targeting around 30,000 free eye surgeries every year to support those in need. Speaking on the hospital’s potential, officials emphasized its role in expanding access to advanced eye care for under-served populations.

The Prime Minister’s day-long visit to Varanasi includes the launch of multiple development projects worth over Rs 6,100 crore. These initiatives encompass various airport projects across the country, signaling a push for infrastructural growth.

Upon arriving at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, PM Modi was received by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. His journey from the airport to the city center was marked by enthusiastic crowds lining the streets, showering flower petals on his motorcade amid drumbeats and chants.

Prior to inaugurating the eye hospital, Modi met with the Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Math, reflecting the spiritual dimension of his visit. He also visited an exhibition organized in the city, accompanied by the governor and chief minister.

The inauguration of RJ Sankara Eye Hospital is expected to strengthen Varanasi’s healthcare offerings, complementing its historical identity as a spiritual center with modern medical facilities.
