Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a Dokra artwork featuring musicians with studded stonework to French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to France from February 10-12. The gesture symbolized India’s rich cultural heritage and reinforced the deepening ties between the two nations.

Dokra art, a traditional metal-casting technique practiced in Chhattisgarh, is known for its intricate craftsmanship and use of the ancient lost-wax method. The gifted piece, made from brass and copper, depicted traditional musicians in dynamic poses and was adorned with lapis lazuli and coral for contrast. The labour-intensive casting process highlighted the skill and dedication of Indian artisans.

During his visit, PM Modi participated in key events focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), commerce, energy, and cultural collaborations. He co-chaired the AI Action Summit, attended by world leaders and top global tech CEOs. The two leaders also reviewed the progress of the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, aimed at strengthening the India-France strategic partnership.

In a historic moment, PM Modi and President Macron inaugurated the first Indian Consulate in France in the city of Marseille. The leaders also visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, where India is a key partner alongside France and other nations.

PM Modi paid homage to Indian soldiers who fought in World Wars I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery. He also toured the control room of CMA-CGM, a global leader in shipping and logistics, highlighting India’s maritime aspirations. In a post on X, he stated, “Strengthening Maritime Ties in Marseille! President @EmmanuelMacron and I visited the control room of CMA-CGM. As India expands its maritime and trade networks, collaborations with industry leaders will play a crucial role in boosting connectivity, supply chains, and economic growth.”

In a special gesture, President Macron personally came to the airport to see off PM Modi, and the two leaders exchanged a warm hug.

Following his France visit, PM Modi is traveling to the United States, marking his first trip there since the second presidential term of President Donald Trump.
