Washington, 22nd Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented US President Joe Biden with an exquisite antique silver hand-engraved train model during their recent meeting. This rare piece, crafted by skilled artisans from Maharashtra, exemplifies the height of Indian metalworking artistry, featuring intricate filigree work and made of 92.5% silver.
The vintage train model pays homage to the steam locomotive era, merging artistic brilliance with historical significance. Customized with inscriptions reading “DELHI-DELAWARE” on the sides of the main carriage and “INDIAN RAILWAYS” on the engine in both English and Hindi, it symbolizes the strong ties between India and the US.
In addition to the train model, Modi gifted First Lady Jill Biden a luxurious pashmina shawl, presented in a beautifully crafted papier mache box. Pashmina shawls, renowned for their quality and design, represent the rich heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. Contemporary designers have added modern sensibilities, experimenting with vibrant colors and patterns, ensuring the legacy of Pashmina remains captivating across generations.
The papier mache boxes, traditionally used to pack these shawls, are works of art in themselves, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and cultural heritage of Kashmir. Each box is handmade, reflecting the region’s artistry and attention to detail.
