Patanjali Foods to Plant 10,000 Hectares of Oil Palm in Tripura

Agartala, April 7, 2025: In a significant drive to increase oil palm plantations in the Northeast, Patanjali Foods has announced its plans to develop 10,000 hectares of oil palm plantations in Tripura within the next two years. This was announced at a media interaction held at Agartala by Ashok Kumar Singh, North East Regional Head of Patanjali Foods.*.

Addressing the media, Singh explained the company’s ambitious plan for Tripura. “We are completely committed to developing oil palm cultivation in the state. Firstly, we have purchased 30 hectares of land, which will be a centralized facility — an oil mill, a nursery, a demonstration plantation, and a training center for farmers,” he explained. The integrated hub will provide a single-point solution for oil palm production with infrastructure support as well as on-ground training for local farmers. The ground work is likely to start in the next three months.

Singh expressed optimism about Tripura’s agro-climatic conditions, calling them “highly suitable for oil palm cultivation.” He also reaffirmed Patanjali’s larger mission to expand oil palm farming across the entire Northeast region, aligning with the central government’s National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) initiative.

Along with the release, Patanjali Foods had also conducted a workshop on Oil Palm Plantation, which received enthusiastic participation of farmers from many districts of Tripura. “The session proved to be productive. It gave detailed information regarding cultivation methods, best practices, and economic prospects of oil palm cultivation,” said Singh.

The occasion was graced by a number of high-ranking officials, including Apurba Roy (IAS, Secretary of Agriculture), Dr. Phani Bhusan Jamatia (Director of Agriculture), and Dipak Das (Director of Horticulture). Representatives from Patanjali Foods were also present, including Subhash Bhattacharjee (NE Advisor) and Ayan Sarkar (Tripura State Head).

The partnership between Patanjali Foods and the Tripura state government is a strategic thrust towards establishing the state as a major center for oil palm cultivation in the Northeast. With investments in infrastructure and training of farmers, the project is likely to generate huge employment opportunities while lowering India’s reliance on imported edible oils.
