Published:

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Monday underscored the deep-rooted relationship between India and New Zealand, highlighting over two centuries of shared history. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi, Luxon praised the seamless integration of the Indian diaspora into New Zealand’s multicultural society.

Speaking at the forum, Luxon noted the seamless integration of the Indian community, particularly in Auckland, where people of Indian heritage now make up 11% of the population. He acknowledged their role in shaping New Zealand’s economy, politics, and sports, reinforcing the idea that ‘Kiwi-Indians’ are an essential part of the nation’s multicultural fabric.

Turning to economic collaboration, Luxon highlighted the growing influence of the Indo-Pacific region, calling it a hub of global economic expansion. “The Indo-Pacific represents two-thirds of global economic growth in the coming years, and India itself is at the centre of this exciting economic future,” he stated, pointing to opportunities for deeper engagement between the two nations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Luxon, calling his visit “a matter of immense joy.” Modi described him as “a youthful, dynamic, and energetic leader,” expressing his delight at having Luxon as the Chief Guest at the Raisina Dialogue.
