Pune, 21st Sept. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday laid the foundation stone for two significant National Highway projects in Pune, Maharashtra. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol.
The projects include the four-laning of a 13 km stretch from Dive Ghat to Hadapsar on the Mohol-Alandi section of NH-965, with a total project cost of ₹819 crore. Additionally, the construction of major bridges over the Mula and Mutha rivers along the Pune-Satara section of NH-48 is set to cost ₹80 crore.
In his address, Gadkari emphasized that these improvements would alleviate congestion on NH-965 and enhance the pilgrimage experience for devotees participating in the Palkhi Yatra. He mentioned plans for dedicated walkways for the Palkhi on either side of the highway, aimed at ensuring safe passage for thousands of devotees.
Gadkari also highlighted future projects, including an elevated corridor in the Nashik Phata Khed section of NH-60 and a development plan for the Ravet to Narhe elevated corridor, expected to start in December 2024. He noted that these initiatives would significantly improve connectivity between Pune, Satara, and Solapur, facilitating faster travel and stimulating local economies.
The projects are expected to benefit approximately 9-10 lakh Warkaris who participate in the Palkhi Yatra, reduce traffic congestion in urban Pune, and provide better access for agricultural and local products to larger markets.
