New Delhi, 19th Oct. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the ‘Karmayogi Saptah’ – National Learning Week at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, aiming to enhance the capacities of India’s civil services and drive forward the vision of a developed India by 2047.
In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of Mission Karmayogi, which focuses on creating a skilled workforce as the backbone of India’s growth. He highlighted that the progress achieved through this mission has been encouraging, and continued efforts could ensure that India’s development remains on an upward trajectory. He noted that the new insights and experiences gained during the National Learning Week would play a critical role in refining working systems and ultimately achieving the goal of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
AI as a Catalyst for Change
The Prime Minister touched upon the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), referring to it as both a challenge and an opportunity for India. He spoke of balancing the potential of AI with the aspirations of a progressive India. “If we successfully utilize Artificial Intelligence to drive progress for Aspirational India, it could lead to transformative change,” he remarked, underscoring the pivotal role of technology in shaping India’s future.
Focus on Citizen-Centric Approach and Innovation
PM Modi stressed the need for civil servants to embrace innovative thinking and adopt a citizen-centric approach. He encouraged collaboration with startups, research agencies, and young minds to infuse fresh ideas into governance. Emphasizing continuous feedback mechanisms, he highlighted that embracing new technologies would empower citizens to hold the government accountable, further strengthening democracy.
Promoting Learning and Collaboration Among Institutions
Prime Minister Modi praised the iGOT platform, noting that over 40 lakh government employees have registered, with more than 1.5 crore certificates of completion issued across 1,400 courses. He also urged civil services training institutions to break free from their siloed functioning, stressing the importance of collaboration, learning from each other, and adopting global best practices. The aim, he said, is to foster a “whole-of-government” approach through these efforts.
Mission Karmayogi and Its Long-term Vision
Launched in September 2020, Mission Karmayogi seeks to build a future-ready civil service, rooted in Indian values with a global outlook. The National Learning Week (NLW) aims to accelerate this mission by providing a platform for individual and organizational capacity development. Through this initiative, the government hopes to promote a unified vision, align civil servants with national goals, and champion lifelong learning across the public sector.
As the week-long event unfolds, civil servants from across India are expected to engage in training sessions, discussions, and collaborative activities aimed at enhancing their skills and aligning them with the country’s developmental objectives.
