Ranchi, 12th Oct. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) announced on Saturday that it has sanctioned ₹770 crore for the construction of two irrigation projects in Jharkhand. This funding is part of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for the fiscal year 2024-25.

S.K. Jahagirdar, Chief General Manager of NABARD’s Jharkhand Regional Office, confirmed that ₹769.58 crore has been allocated for these projects, which are set to enhance agricultural productivity in the Palamu and Giridih districts.

The irrigation project in Palamu is expected to provide irrigation to an additional 11,000 hectares of farmland via pipelines across eight blocks in the district. Meanwhile, the megalift irrigation project in Giridih will benefit 165 of the 197 villages in the Pirtand block, expanding the cultivable command area by 10,158 hectares.

NABARD emphasized that both projects are anticipated to significantly boost agricultural activities in these districts. This announcement comes as Jharkhand prepares for its upcoming assembly elections, with the current assembly’s tenure set to expire on January 5, 2025.

With this latest sanction, NABARD’s support for Jharkhand under the RIDF during the 2024-25 fiscal year has now reached ₹1,017 crore. Since the inception of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, the total support provided to the state amounts to approximately ₹24,300 crore.
